Ghouls are creatures who were once human, but who have taken to the practice of eating human flesh, usually in the form of carrion. Although they are not sustained by magical energies like other Undead, they are often associated with them because of their pale, emaciated appearance, their nocturnal habits and the fact that they tend to stick close to graveyards where there are always newly-buried bodies to feed on.
