Borean Tundra (Alliance Quest Guide)

Borean Tundra is one of the two "starter zones" for Northrend. It contains a wide variety of areas, including the completely separated region of Coldarra where The Nexus is located. This guide is focused on Alliance questing.
The Borean Tundra will most likely be the most popular first Northrend location for Alliance players, since you can get to it directly from the newly constructed Stormwind Harbor. Taking the ship there will take you to Valliance Keep, the first quest hub on the Tundra and the stronghold of the Alliance.
While the Keep itself isn't that big, you should take your time to explore it - if nothing else, Valliance Keep has trainer for every profession so it's a good place to get your profession cap raised. Once you're done exploring, you might want to think about enlisting...

Valiance Keep
- Enlistment Day - From the docks, the recruiters will send you to General Arlos. Valiance Keep is split into a north and south half, with a boat dividing the two. You begin in the north and the barracks are in the south. Arlos is in the main command center.
- A Time For Heroes - Arlos sends you to Sergeant Hammerhill near the exit to town. (There are technically two exits to town, but the more obvious one outside the barracks is where Hammerhill is.)
- The Siege - Kill 6 Crypt Crawlers on the Sands of Nasam outside of town.
- Death From Above - Kill Scourged Flamespitters just outside of town on the Sands of Nasam. Throw nets at the mobs if you can't kill them from range. Leads to Plug the Sinkholes.
- A Soldier in Need - Board the Stormbreaker (the boat in the center of town) and grab the supplies from below deck.
- Cultists Among Us - Begins from the ring of candles on the lower deck of the Stormbreaker, and suggests you talk to the captain by the wheel.
- Notify Arlos - This quest also sends you back to General Arlos.
The Riplash Strand
Completing the preceding quests will unlock Enemies of the Light and A Diplomatic Mission. It is not known if these prerequisites are reputation-based or quest-based, but the two quests are available in the command room of the barracks.
- Enemies of the Light - Leave town by the western exit and travel north toward Farshire. There are several summoning circles around the outskirts of town where cultists summon ghouls. Kill them until they drop the communique.
- Plug the Sinkholes (requires Death From Above) - On the ridges above the beach head, there are two large holes in the ground. One is to the north near Farshire, and one to the south. Use your explosives in each.
- A Diplomatic Mission - This quest from the barracks asks you to speak to Karuk by Riplash Strand in the southwest.
- Karuk's Oath - Kill some of the ghosts on the beaches to the south.
- Gamel the Cruel - Slay Gamel the Cruel in his cave on the Riplash Strand.
- A Father's Words - Speak with Veehja at the Shrine of Scales.
- The Trident of Naz'jan - Enter the Riplash Ruins on the southern islands, travel to the northeast corner of them, and slay Ragnar Drakkarlund.
- The Emissary - Spear Leviroth in the waters off the northern coast of the ruins, and finish him off. Return to Karuk when completed.
Farshire
Before leaving Valliance Keep:
- Further Investigation (requires Enemies of the Light) will ask you to locate Vindicator Yaala on the upper stories of the inn.
- The Hunt is On will give you an item that reveals the shadowy nature of cultists-in-hiding. Approach Tom Hegger on the docks, Guard Mitchells in the barracks basement, and "Salty" Jon Thorpe in the inn's kitchen, and kill them.
- Word on the Street will have you speak to Leryssa on the inn balcony. She will want you to find her brother Thassarian.

First trip into Farshire:
- Farshire (requires Plug the Sinkholes) - Leave town by the northern exit that you may not have noticed before, and talk to Gerald Green.
- Military? What Military? - Investigate the plagued grain in the Farshire Mine.
- Thassarian, My Brother (requires Word on the Street) - Locate William Allerton just a short ways into the mine.
- Pernicious Evidence - Return to Gerald Green.
Second trip into Farshire:
- It's Time For Action - Kill the ghouls in Farshire.
- Reference Material - Pick up Jeremiah's book from the floor of the burning building near the mine.
- Take No Chances - Put a torch to sacks of grain in the town.
Third trip into Farshire:
- Repurposed Technology - Kill Harvest Collectors in the tiny patch by the questgivers and repair them to fight the ghouls.
- Fruits of Our Labor - Enter the mine, kill Captain Jacobs for the key, and release the mining cart in the center of the mine.
- One Last Delivery - Take the ore shipment to Hilda Stoneforge
- The Late William Allerton - Speak to Leryssa about Allerton's demise.
- Lost and Found - The tavernkeep, James Deacon, tells you where to get Leryss'a information.
- Weapons for Farshire - Return to Gerald Green at Farshire.
- Call to Arms! - Ring the bell on the second floor of the town hall.
D.E.H.T.A.
The D.E.H.T.A. camp is up the road a bit from Farshire. There is nothing to say that these quests need to be all completed now.
- A Mission Statement - Simply asks you to agree to DEHTA's ideals.
- Ears of Our Enemies - Return with ears from Nesingwary's men.
- Can't Get Ear-nough... - Repeatable follow-up with same objectives.
- Happy As a Clam - Kill divers in Lake Kum'eya.
- Ned, Lord of Rhinos... - Kill Nedar, Lord of Rhinos and "Lunchbox" on the western side of the lake.
- Unfit For Death - Lay fake hides over the traps south of the camp.
- The Culler Cometh - Kill Karen "I Don't Caribou" the Culler along the southern ridges of the caribou area. Partner Recommended. (You may wish to continue to Amber Ledge from here, at least to get the flight point.)
- Help Those That Cannot Help Themselves - Smash the traps holding Trapped Mammoth Calves in the fields to the north.
- Khu'nok Will Know - Travel north to Khu'nok the Behemoth and deliver the mammoth calf.
- Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer - An interesting quest. Board a mammoth bull and ride to the north where the Camp of Kaw is located. Using your new controls, kill the Minions of Kaw and Kaw himself with the abilities given. Dismount and loot the spear. If someone has recently done this, you might not need to kill him at all since the spear is lootable by all. (You may wish to continue to Fizzcrank Airstrip from here, at least to get the flight point.)
- The Abandoned Reach (requires Happy as a Clam) - Travel to the beaches north of Farshire and speak to Hierophant Liandra.
- Not on Our Watch - Collect 12 boxes, bags and crates from the Abandoned Reach.
- The Nefarious Clam Master... - Kill Clam Master K by the shipwreck in the southeast.
- In Wine, Truth (requires Lost and Found) - Collect the Kul Tiras wine on the floor of the wrecked ship.
Amber Ledge
Reaching Amber Ledge will give you not one, but two flight points, since it adds access to Coldarra as well.
- Nick of Time - Midge wants you to thank her saviors at Amber Ledge in the far west.
- Prison Break - Go to Beryl Ridge in the west and kill Beryl Mage Hunters to get a key and unlock one of the prisons there.
- Abduction - Severely injure a Beryl Sorcerer and "arrest" him and take him back to Amber Ledge.
- The Borean Inquisition - Nobody expects the Borean Inquisition!
- The Art of Persuasion - Use the neural needler on the mage repeatedly until he cracks.
- Sharing Intelligence - return to Librarian Donathan.
- A Race Against Time - Enter the main pad of Beryl Point, use the detonator, and then attack Inquisitor Salrand, who floats above you.
- Reforging the Key - Talk to the red dragon at Amber Ridge.
- Taking Wing - Talk to Warmage Anzim on the south side of the encampment.
- Rescuing Evanor - Fly with the red drakes to Evanor's prison. After they clear the platform, click on Evanor's prison and open it. Evanor will teleport you back to Amber Ledge.
- Dragonspeak - Speak with Surristrasz.
- Traversing the Rift - Fly from Amber Ledge to Coldarra.
- Monitoring the Rift: Cleftcliff Anomaly - Head into the channel west of Beryl Ridge and use your Arcanometer to point you in the right direction on your mini-map. (loc needed)
- Monitoring the Rift: Sundered Chasm (requires Cleftcliff Anomaly) - Swim north from Amber Ledge and find the huge glowing rift on the floor of the chasm.
- Monitoring the Rift: Winterfin Cavern -
Winterfin Retreat
- King Mrgl-mrgl - Speak with King Mrgl-mrgl.
- Learning to Communicate - Kill Scalder at the bottom of the Westrift and return with a filled conch.
- Winterfin Commerce - Collect 10 clams in the area around the Winterfin murlocs.
- Oh Noes, The Tadpoles! - Free baby murlocs from the cages throughout Winterfin Village and CaveRns.
- Them! - Kill random enemy murlocs.
- Keymaster Urmgrgl - Starting from a caged murloc inside the caverns, asks you to kill the mob by the same name.
- I'm Being Blackmailed By My Cleaner - Speak with Mrmrglmr.
- Grmmurggll Mrllggrl Glrggl!!! - Kill the large orca, Glrggl.
- Succulent Orca Stew - Kill orcas.
- The Spare Suit - Talk to King Mrgl-mrgl.
- Surrender... Not! - Use the murloc suit to go to the back of the caverns and kill Claximus.
Coldrock Quarry
Coldrock Quarry quests come from Etaruk on the southeast slopes outside the quarry, and from Elder Atkanok (54.6, 35.7), a large crystal that represents one of the Tuskarr's ancient elders.
- Reclaiming the Quarry - Kill 12 Beryl Treasure Hunters.
- The Honored Ancestors - Locate the three statues for the various elders in the quarry.
- Elder Sagani is at 52,33
- Elder Kesuk is at 50,32
- Elder Takret is at 52,31
- The Lost Spirits - Kill 6 Beryl Hounds and use their Core of Malice to free a Kaskala Shaman or Craftsman.
- Hampering Their Escape - Kill Beryl Reclaimers to get grenades to lob at the three platforms in the quarry.
- Picking up the Pieces - Collect 6 Tuskarr Ritual Objects from throughout the quarry.
- A Visit to the Curator - Kill Curator Insivius.
- Leading the Ancestors Home - Return to the elders' statues.
Kaskala
Before leaving town:
- A Deserter (requires In Wine, Truth) - Talk to Private Brau in the Valiance Keep prison.
- Cowards and Fools - Speak with Ataika in Kaskala.
- Preparing For the Worst - Collect Kaskala Supplies throughout Kaskala.
- Not Without a Fight! - Kill 12 Kvaldir Raiders.
- Muahit's Wisdom - Find Elder Muahit on the island in the waters of Kaskala.
- Spirits Watch Over Us - Off the north edge of the island, dive to Iruk's Corpse and search it.
- The Tides Turn - Kill Heigarr the Horrible on the southern edge of the island. He looks like any other raider.
- Travel to Moa'ki Harbor - This is a feeder quest into Dragonblight, the next zone over.
Fizzcrank Airstrip
- Distress Call - Report to Fizzcrank Airstrip.
- The Mechagnomes - Storytime!
- Re-cursive - Inject 6 mechagnome corpses.
- What's the Matter with the Transmatter? - Collect 15 random parts throughout the Scalding Pools.
- The Ultrasonic Screwdriver - Return to Crafty Wobblesprocket with the screwdriver, that is a random drop off robots in the Scalding Pools.
- Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty - Access each of the four stations to kill Twonky, ED-210, Max Blasto, and The Grinder.
- The Gearmaster - Travel to the top of the pumping station and defeat Gearmaster Mechazod. Check the manual in his quarters as well.
- Dirty, Stinkin' Snobolds! - Travel north to Magmoth and pick up 10 boxes of Crafty's stuff.
- Get Me Outa Here! - Escort Bonker Togglevolt from Magmoth to safety.
- Just a Few More Things... - Collect Crafty's Tools from the base of the pump, grit from Rocknar, and a Hair Trigger from either an engineer or from the robots in the area.
- Hah... You're Not So Big Now! - Shrink 5 Magmoth Crushers.
- Plan B - Collect outfits and banners from Steeljaw's Caravan.
- It Was the Orcs, Honest! - Kill Magmothregar while disguised as an orc.
- Finding Pilot Tailspin - Locate Iggy "Tailspin" Cogtoggle.
- A Little Bit of Spice - Travel to The Flood Plains and kill gorlocs for spice pouches.
- Lupus Pupus - Throw Wolf Bait at 8 wolves, and collect the microfilm they...expel.
- Emergency Protocol: Section 8.2, Paragraph C - Check 6 pilot bodies in the area.
- Emergency Protocol: Section 8.2, Paragraph D - Torch the nearby plane wrecks.
- Give Fizzcrank the News - Return to Fizzcrank Fullthrottle.
- Scouting the Sinkholes (prereq of 3k Valiant Expedition rep) - Travel to the south end of the Scalding Pools and mark the sinkholes on the provided map.
- Fueling the Project - Use the Portable Oil Collector on 8 oil spouts.
- A Bot in Mammoth's Clothing - Kill mammoths for skins.
- Deploy the Shake-n-Quake! - Travel to the southeast sinkhole and use the Shake-n-Quake. Then kill Lord Kryxix.
Talramas/Dens of Dying
- Check in With Bixie (requires What's the Matter with the Transmatter?) - Locate Bixie Wrenchshanker.
- Oh Great... Plagued Magnataur! - Kill Plagued Magnataurs around The Dens of Dying.
- There's Something Going On In Those Caves - Enter a cave use the inhibiting powder on a cauldron.
- Might As Well Wipe Out the Scourge - Kill Scourge at Talramas.
- Rats, Tinky Went Into the Necropolis! - Find Tinky Wickwhistle in the cage on the east side of Talramas.
- I'm Stuck in This Damned Cage... But Not For Long! - Kill ghouls, and the two named targets on top of Talramas. The trick is realizing there is a path outside Talramas that leads on top of it.
- Let Bixie Know - Return to Bixie.
- Back to the Airstrip - Return to Fizzcrank.
En'kilah
- The Son of Karkut (requires Cowards and Fools) - Visit Death's Stand in the far northeast.
- Surrounded! - Kill 7 Ziggurat Defenders.
- The Lost Courier - Feeder quest into Dragonblight.
- Thassarian, The Death Knight - Find Thassarian at The Wailing Ziggurat.
- Finding the Phylactery - Ride Dusk to a pool in Transborea where the phylactery is located, and defeat its guards.
- Buying Some Time - Enter En'kilah and kill stuff.
- Words of Power - Defeat the priest in each ziggurat of En'kilah. One is located above the ziggurat, and the other two require clearing the room to spawn.
- Last Rites - Enter Naxxanar via the teleportation orb in En'kilah. Find the orb immediately above where you teleport into, and port to the upper part of En'kilah. Fight Prince Valanar. Bring a healer and a tank.
Coldarra
First trip:
- Basic Training - Kill 10 Coldarra Spellweavers.
- Secrets of the Ancients - Kill 3 magical ancients and 3 non-magical ancients.
- Reading the Meters - Inspect each of the three stations around the perimeter of Coldarra, and find the orb around the inner edge of the chasm around The Nexus, in the southwest.
- Nuts for Berries - Collect 10 Winterberries.
Second trip:
- Keep the Secret Safe - Kill 5 Mana Serpents around the chasm surrounding the Nexus.
- Hatching a Plan - Kill 5 Coldarra Wyrmkin and use their axes on the eggs in the central chasm.
Third trip:
- Drake Hunt - Spear a Nexus Drake Hatchling and wait for it to be subdued so you can lead it back to Raelorasz. This quest is repeatable.
- Cracking the Code - Kill Coldarra Spellbinders and Inquisitor Caleras at the center of the southeast pad.
- Puzzling... - Take a Scintillating Fragment from a spellbinder to Raelorasz. Leads to the following questline:
Thereafter:
- The Cell - Defeat General Cerulean and Warbringer Goredrak on the other two pads.
- Keristrasza - After summoning Keristrasza, speak to her again.
- Bait and Switch - Collect 10 Crystallized Mana Shards.
- Saragosa's End - Kill Saragosa.
- Mustering the Reds - Report to Raelorasz.
- Springing the Trap - Use the flare by the northwest entrance of The Nexus.
- Prisoner of War - Dungeon quest inside Nexus to defeat Keristrasza.
